In August, a team of mathematicians posted a paper claiming to solve a major problem in algebraic geometry — using entirely alien techniques. It instantly captivated the field, stoking excitement in some mathematicians and skepticism in others. The result deals with polynomial equations, which combine variables raised to powers (like y = x or x2 − 3xy = z2). These equations are some of the…

Games of Life, now live!

Games of Life is an advanced and scalable web GPU-based cellular automaton simulator with tons of features and some new ideas.

Please try the live demo from from the GitHub repository. If you like it, please star my repo. GitHub issues and pull requests are very welcome.

Here is a tip: Open the rule editor and clean the screen by pressing D on your keyboard. While you edit the rule, use the brush (B) to seed the simulation. You can even add text to the canvas, you just need to use the text brush. You will be surprised how far you can go, especially by modifying the neighborhood vitality influence, which is kind of my new idea. It leads to incredibly complex and lifelike patterns.
